Book Blog #2

Stone Fox

The book I read was Stone Fox written by John Reynolds Gardiner.  The story takes place on a potato farm in Wyoming.  Little Willy, his dog Searchlight, and his grandfather find out that he owes back taxes on his property to the State of Wyoming.  Little Willy has also just found out that his grandfather, who has fallen sick, does not want to live anymore.  Can Little Willy find a way to raise the $500.00 that his grandfather owes to the state or will he lose his grandfather and his farm?  Can Little Willy train Searchlight for a dogsled race in time to save the farm?

My Favorite Character

My favorite characters in this book are Little Willy and his dog Searchlight.  Little Willy is a very caring young man and is also very passionate.  His dog Searchlight is very fast and is a very loyal dog to his Little Willy.  Little Willy takes on a big responsibility when his grandfather falls ill and has no desire to live which shows a lot of maturity on Little Willy’s character and responsibility for his family.  Little Willy eventually discovers that his grandfather was not physically ill, just depressed over the tax situation.

My Reaction

I liked the style of fiction that the author uses to write this book.  Though very sad in the end, this book kept my attention throughout the whole book.  I would recommend this book for others who enjoy this type of reading.  It reminded me of how hard it was to say good-bye to the two dogs I once had in my family and how sad Little Willy and his grandfather were to lose Searchlight.
